About

Yu is an artists who explores various mediums and techniques in her creative practice. She received her BFA in Product Design and MFA in Painting at Parsons School of Design and NYSS. Yu Rong's artwork has been exhibited in galleries such as Ceres Gallery in New York City and ARC Gallery in Chicago. She has also showcased her designs at international events including Milan Design Week, Prague Design Week, and the London Design Fair.

With a background in education, Yu has shared her passion for art with students both in public schools and as a teaching educator at the Museum of Chinese in America. At MOCA, she teaches Chinese art, arts and crafts, and creative art making techniques, and leads the MOCAcreate family project, engaging families in art experiences that celebrate Chinese culture.

The arts and crafts Yu has created are for kids between 5 -12 years old. The goal of teaching is to foster creativity. Yu has learned children’s drawing and Chinese brush painting from Kindergarten in Sichuan province. She started to learn Western art after third grade. Her art projects for children younger than 8 years old focus on creativity.

The art inspiration comes from all cultures including Indian art, Islamic miniature art, East Asian Art, and European art. The art mediums include ink, oil, encaustic, egg tempera, pastels, crayons, watercolors, collages, mixed medium, print, color pencils, and clay. The art projects include blowing paint with a bubble wand, stamping with found objects, drawing with crayons and melting with an encaustic iron, Decalcomania, collaging, scratching, Chinese brush painting, Chinese Calligraphy, Printmaking,drawing in water/shaving cream, and sculpting with non-toxic clay.

For Museum visitors and schools

Origami

Origami helps children develop their reading and writing skills. I taught the students how to make bookmarks, autumn leaves, hearts, envelopes, flowers, and turn themselves into mini paper dolls.

Educational Art Game For AAPI

“Build Your Own Chinatown” is an art game created by Yu for kids. Through engaging in artistic activities such as practicing Chinese art, designing clothings, and sculpturing pots and vases, kids not only create but also learn about the rich cultural heritage of China.

Clay Poking Art

To foster creativity in kids, I created this Poking art technique using non toxic clay. My students enjoyed poking the art together with classmates.
